Forwarding your business phone to Vallo
For Vallo to answer your calls, your business line needs to forward unanswered (or all) calls to your Vallo phone number. This is the most common setup.
Don't want to forward? You can skip forwarding and just give out your Vallo number directly — on your website, ads, business cards, anywhere you'd put a number. Go to Dashboard → Phone, switch to Use your Vallo number, and click "I'm using my Vallo number directly."
Step 1 — Get your Vallo number
It's shown on Dashboard → Forwarding and was assigned during signup. It looks like +1 555-XXX-XXXX.
Step 2 — Pick your forwarding type
- Conditional (recommended) — forwards only when you don't answer. Your phone still rings; Vallo only picks up when you can't.
- Unconditional — forwards every call directly to Vallo. Your phone never rings.
Most owner-operators want conditional. Use unconditional if you want Vallo to handle 100% of calls.
Step 3 — Use your provider's dial code or instructions below
In Dashboard → Forwarding, select your carrier or VoIP provider from the dropdown — Vallo automatically inserts your Vallo number into the right code. The full reference is below.
In each code, [Vallo number] means the 10 or 11 digits of your Vallo number with no dashes or spaces (e.g. for +1 555-123-4567, dial 5551234567).

VoIP providers
VoIP providers don't use dial codes — you configure forwarding inside their web portal or app.
OpenPhone
- Open the OpenPhone web or desktop app
- Go to Settings → Phone Numbers and select your number
- Open the Call Flow Builder
- Add a "Forward call" step pointing to your Vallo number
- Click Enable this call flow
For conditional forwarding, add a "Ring users" step first and set "Forward call" as the fallback.
RingCentral
- Open the RingCentral app
- Go to Settings → Phone → Call Handling and click Edit
- Scroll to Missed calls
- Select "Forward to external number" and enter your Vallo number
- Click Save
For unconditional forwarding, click your profile picture and select "Forward all calls" instead.
Google Voice
- Go to voice.google.com and click the settings gear
- Click Account → Linked Numbers
- Click + New linked number and enter your Vallo number
- Verify the number and toggle it ON
Note: Google Voice rings linked numbers simultaneously rather than sequentially — it doesn't support true conditional forwarding.
Grasshopper
- Log in at grasshopper.com or open the mobile app
- Go to Settings → Extensions and click Edit
- Click Add a forwarding number and enter your Vallo number
- Set scheduling to "Always" (or add your personal number first and Vallo second with "In order" for conditional)
- Click Add this number
Dialpad
- Open the Dialpad app and go to Settings
- Navigate to Call Handling & Voicemail
- Scroll to "When I don't answer"
- Enter your Vallo number and click Save
For unconditional, go to Settings → Your Devices → Add a forwarding number instead.
Other VoIP or hosted PBX
- Log into your provider's admin panel or app
- Find Call Forwarding or Call Routing in settings
- Set unanswered (or all) calls to forward to your Vallo number
- Save your changes
If you can't find the setting, call your VoIP provider and ask them to forward calls to your Vallo number.
Step 4 — Confirm in Vallo
Click I've set up forwarding in the Vallo dashboard. This tells Vallo to start watching for the first real call.
You're not done yet — confirm it's working below.
Confirming your forwarding works
When a call arrives at your Vallo number from your normal business line (or a customer dialing your business number), Vallo recognizes the route and marks forwarding as Confirmed. You'll see a green "Forwarding confirmed" badge in your dashboard.
Test it yourself
If you don't want to wait for a real customer:
- Use a different phone (a friend's, your spouse's) to call your normal business number — not your Vallo number.
- Don't pick up if you're on conditional forwarding (or just confirm unconditional is forwarding immediately).
- Listen for Vallo to answer. If it does, forwarding is working.
- Refresh your dashboard. The call should appear within ~30 seconds.
If forwarding isn't being detected
If 24+ hours pass with no calls, Vallo nudges you to verify. Click My business just hasn't gotten any calls to dismiss for 48 hours, or Re-do setup to reset the forwarding flow.
If 72+ hours pass with zero calls after confirmation, Vallo resets your forwarding status to "Not started" — this catches the case where forwarding silently broke (a carrier reset, etc.). Re-dial the code to fix it.
Pausing forwarding (cell carriers)
To take Vallo offline temporarily (vacation, returning calls yourself), dial the deactivation code on your business line:
- Verizon, US Cellular, Spectrum, landline: *73
- AT&T, Cricket: ##61# for conditional, ##21# for unconditional, or ##004# to clear all forwarding
- T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile: ##61# for conditional, ##21# for unconditional, or ##004# to clear all forwarding
After you dial, calls stop forwarding to Vallo immediately. Your business line rings normally again.
Pausing forwarding (VoIP providers)
Open your VoIP provider's web portal or app and turn off the forwarding rule you set up:
- OpenPhone: disable the call flow that points to your Vallo number
- RingCentral: Settings → Phone → Call Handling → remove or disable the forwarding rule
- Google Voice: voice.google.com → Settings → Account → Linked Numbers → toggle the Vallo number OFF
- Grasshopper: Settings → Extensions → Edit → remove the Vallo forwarding number
- Dialpad: Settings → Call Handling & Voicemail → clear the "When I don't answer" forwarding
- Other VoIP: disable the forwarding rule in your admin panel
Turning forwarding back on
Re-dial the same code (or re-enable the VoIP rule) you used originally. Vallo picks back up where it left off.
Switching to your Vallo number directly
If forwarding isn't for you and you'd rather give out your Vallo number on ads, your website, and business cards:
- Pause forwarding using the steps above.
- Go to Dashboard → Phone, switch to Use your Vallo number, and click "I'm using my Vallo number directly — don't need forwarding."
- Vallo stops checking for forwarded calls and stops the setup reminders.
You can switch back to forwarding any time from the same page.
Canceling Vallo entirely
- Pause forwarding using the steps above.
- In Vallo: Dashboard → Billing → Cancel subscription.
- Your subscription stays active until the end of your current billing period; you can reactivate any time before then.
